British melodic metal band Control The Storm come from the South West of England. It’s been 4 years since their demo disc was released, but now with a new singer they’ve finally got their debut album ready to release. It’s at the stage now where you see a band with a female singer and the automatic assumption is that they’re a symphonic metal band, so it’s nice when you find a band that hasnt gone down that route. There are plenty of great non-symphonic metal bands around (Halestorm, In this moment, Triaxis etc etc), but they seem to be swamped by the number of symphonic bands, many of whom seem to have nothing to make them stand out. Control the storm have happily avoided the symphonic metal route, and are better off as a result as they stand out more. It’s got a strong metal element – powerful guitars, fast hard drumming, growling male vocals and more, but this is balanced with a softer more melodic element – the clean female vocals in particular, and the song writing carefully balances these two elements.
