Personally, I feel that everyone in the final is a winner but if you were to be chosen to represent Ireland at Bloodstock, what would it mean to Theories Divide. Leigh: All our hard work is starting to pay off and we’d be delighted to have the honour of showing the world what irish heavy metal has to offer. How has the overall M2TM experience been this year for your band? Leigh: Despite some internal turmoil the competition has been such a rush. We found that the competition has been really well organized, well run, and the experience to play with and watch the other bands has been spectacular. The support in the scene is awe inspiring! What would you say to bands thinking about applying for next year’s competition? Leigh: We would say be as professional as possible its […]

We caught up with guitarist Barry Christie and discussed how the whole M2TM experience has been. For people hearing about Vile Regression for the first time. Tell us about yourselves? We have been active in some form since 2007, but in the current incarnation for less than two years. Like most bands we do shy away from subscribing to genres, but we’d like to think of ourselves as playing modern death metal with a technical and progressive approach, designed to challenge ourselves and listeners, and that above all, we put on one hell of a live show….. And we have beards… The beards are important! Congratulations on reaching the Final of Metal 2 The Masses. Personally, I feel that everyone in the final is a winner but if you were to be chosen to represent Ireland at Bloodstock, what would it mean to your Vile Regression. Barry: Representing Ireland at Bloodstock would mean so much to us, both personally and professionally. We’ve been striving […]

It’s been a hell of a competition this year as the 36 entrants were whittled down to what will be the final six. Semi final A gave us Nautilus, Vile Regression and The Devil Wants Her Swagger Back and Semi Final B left the last 7 bands busting their balls for the remaining places. PlanetMosh has been present at every show this year and the level of talent in the Irish scene has been astounding. Semi final B was no exception in the metal maelstrom that is M2TM IRE. Read on to see what went down in Fibbers at the weekend. Devolted First up is Devolted who are by far the sharpest dressed band in 2015. Frontman Rafal, was born to be on the stage. His larger than life persona really catches the attention and his between song banter is hilarious. “Ladies and Genitals, we are Devolted” quips the leopard print clad bassist. Drummer Dominik, (on a night that features many extrovert drummers) stands aloft the kit and simulates sexy time with the crowd. These guys are fun from the start, and their […]

Seven bands took part in the competition: Alpheidae, Within Without, The Devil Wants Her Swagger Back, Corr Mhona, Lace Weeper, Nautilus, and Vile Regression. One of last year’s finalists, Alpheidae, were the first band of the evening and they hit the ground running from the off. It was a crushing performance and their development in the space of a year has been pretty impressive. Always a focal point, Calvin’s pained vocal cements the visible turmoil of their musical story. Bassist Gavin and guitarist Jake make for a formidable pairing at the singer’s right hand side. Their bruising delivery along with Zach and Ros set a very high benchmark for the other six bands left to play. During ‘City Of Knives’, Calvin revealed the words “Run Blind” painted on his back. As the heat of the stage took its toll, the sweat-infused letters took on the appearance of a very fine black metal logo. Alpheidae closed a classy performance with a cracking reception from the crowd. Within Without I didn’t catch the whole Within Without set but thankfully got to see the majority of it. I […]

We’re back in front of the stage at Metal 2 The Masses Ireland. Tonight is the Wildcard final; Something new for 2015, where 6 bands who did not progress to the Semi Final by crowd or judge vote in their heats get a second chance at a slot in the penultimate round. These bands were selected by the organisers based on their performances during the heats and tonight is their opportunity to drink deep, once again, on the road to Bloodstock Open Air 2015. First up are blackened thrash outfit, Chemical Sacrament. As I alluded in the previous review of these guys, when they are playing full on black metal they area force that makes a strong impression. They are clearly a group of friends who are just enjoying mixing together whatever genre that takes their fancy, be it Thrash, Death or reggae (yeah, I said reggae). Over the 30 minutes, they kick the arse of the evening into gear and extract a good reaction from the crowd. With time and focus, these genre-mashers might just create something memorable. Enshrined are second on the bill and take […]

Metal 2 The Masses Ireland – Heat 2 – 24/01/2015 & Interviews

Six bands went head to head on a night that was filled with excitement, aggression, technicality, camaraderie (yes, camaraderie) and damn good fun. Black Svan delivered a set of crushing rock anthems with vocalist Keith Caffrey’s enigmatic and forceful delivery filling every inch of the venue. It’s pretty clear from their stage presence that they have benefited immensely from performing on tours with Fozzy and Kerbdog. Thrashers, Saint Slaughter ploughed through a set that was hampered by a broken guitar string. Kudos to Jagger from Black Svan for being on hand to help with a replacement. The lads regained momentum and are a band that show a lot of promise. Soothsayer were a revelation and they dealt with a second string break of the evening with consummate professionalism. This was their first show in Dublin and their brand of menacing doom was lapped up by those in attendance with a proclivity for the early sounds of Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride. Special note has to be given to their frontman Liam […]
