Romeo’s Daughter – Spin

Spin is the fourth album from Romeos Daugher. It seems hard to believe but it’s 27 years since the release of their self-titled 1988 debut album. Sadly the band split in the early Nineties, but happily reformed a few years ago and released the excellent album “Rapture”. Sadly the band split in the early Nineties, but happily reformed a few years ago and released the excellent album “Rapture”. Now three years on from that they’re back with “Spin”. So, first impressions? Well, Leigh Matty’s voice is as beautiful as ever, the music is perfect and the songs are great. Brief comments on a couple of tracks… The album kicks off with “Touch” – a great song – plenty of guitars and a strong rhythm combine with Leigh’s vocals to make a great rock song. Next up is the equally strong “Already gone” – again a strong rock song, but this time with a really good chorus. I’d say that based on the half-dozen or so listen’s I’ve had of the album then this is my favourite song. I hope they include it in their live set when they tour. The acoustic guitar comes out for “Tonight” and initially it’s just acoustic guitar and vocals before the rest of the band join in. My first impressions were right – this is another […]

Unfortunately, scheduling of the latter meant that we again missed the main stage openers – this time in the shape of Wakefield’s Euphoria Audio and the vanguard of today’s Scandinavian invasion Reach – but we managed to make the trudge back up the hill and into the bar area just in time to catch Melbourne blow-ins White Widdow and their impactful brand of classic melodic rock. With their tight musicality and good use of vocal harmonies, there is no doubt that Jules Millis is another of the plethora of charismatic frontmen strutting their talent this weekend; he covers the stage well, and interacts with the crowd on the most effective level – even taking time to have a joking swipe about The Poodles vocalist Jakob’s comment about how far his band had travelled to play Pwllheli (“their flight must have been a killer”!). The band themselves are tight and the set is a solid and well-paced way […]

PlanetMosh’s favourite new kids on the block, StOp sToP have also been added to the event’s Sleaze stage. While it had been widely reported for several weeks that CrashDiet were not appearing, an official statement posted on the HRH Facebook page earlier today said: “Just to put some clarity to the recent rumours, CrashDiet will not be performing at HRH United or in the near future due to one of its band members being considerably ill. It’s a shame, as we were all up for it, but we are only human and sometimes these things happen, however once they are fit and back up and running, well get them back in.” A statement from the band added: “Its with a lot of regret that CrashDiet have had to cancel Hard Rock Hell United due to health issues with one of the band members. We apologise to anyone that has bought a ticket to see the band and hope that the band will be able to grace a future edition of the event so as to […]
